Out in the Field Sketching Little Rabbits…

On the drawing board - Little Rabbits -   and I think this little rabbit has spotted a cat!

One of the things about having a little space around your property is that nature visits...

… and we have had a few rabbits about lately and a pair have nested under an old A-frame shed in our backyard. In time tiny rabbits began to appear so I took my sketching pad out and sat quietly and watched. After about half an hour four little guys began to appear. They were as interested in me as I them. One little rabbit brought out a sketching pad, pencils an eraser, paints and paint brush, and I found myself being sketched while I was sketching (photo proof belowSmile).

Then another little rabbit brought out from the den what looked like a piece of apple, but when it went back under the shed, and I had finished doing all the sketching I wanted, I saw, that in fact, it was a bright red, apple tree leaf.

The little rabbits are so cute, and are about a handful in size… but unfortunately between the wild and domestic cats around here plus the hungry hawks, they get eaten before they are old enough to enjoy a little bit of life…

…and I think this cat has spotted a little rabbit! What to do?

…Over time I thought the rabbits had all been eaten but on observation there was an adult rabbit that visited the A-frame shed every evening and out would pop the four little rabbits and he/she would take them further afield away from the A-frame shed until a scary noise prompted them to scarper back to their nest under the shed.

Then one day they must have left their home…

…because at our verandah door we spotted that one of those little rabbits  (so cute) had indeed left. As per photo below:

(All art work was done on rough watercolour paper using watercolour inks, pencils and paints.)
