Giant Praying Mantis Horror Story…

Giant Praying Mantis Horror Story

As a kid wandering about the roads of Japan, surprising things would screech my shoes to a halt. Like when I saw, not far from home,  a giant praying mantis on the concrete curb of the road,  and crawling out of it was one humongous, and very fat worm.  At the time, as a little kid, I thought it was a tape worm, but research shows it was most probably a very well nourished Horsehair worm. The praying mantis was still alive, and I was so horrified such a thing could happen. It is something you never forget seeing. (Pictures coming)

More recently…

That horror story aside praying mantis are one of my favourite insects. More recently, I observed an African female praying mantis (they have eaten and pushed out the NZ praying mantis species around my place), on a cane seat, and how nice that the sun was setting. Strangely enough the praying mantis turned and stared at me while I was taking the shot. What on earth would she think I was? Then I wondered what she thought about her own reflection?  Anyway, I offered her a lift to a higher position as that seat was going to be used and I didn’t want her to get squashed. She dropped to the ground a couple of times. But after some light coaxing I managed to get her on my hand and lifted her onto the house. A while later , I thought I’d test her intelligence and found she had learnt that I meant her no harm. so she happily walked onto my hand, and I lifted her to a higher position which she very happily accepted. She was one very cool praying mantis.

Well, hello….

God damn it, is that me? Oh, yes, that is me! Nice waist line, great muscles, all legs are slender! I look good enough to eat. Damn it, let me get out of here before something does. I was happy to oblige.
