The Legless Pukeko Series Came From an Interesting Walk…

You can find the strangest of things while out walking. Like a pair of pukeko legs just lying on the grass as if placed. And I did find exactly that. On investigation… no feathers were mislaid anywhere, or other bits. No hint of something nasty going down. like a hawk or stoat strike.  No, just a pair of skinny red legs just lying in the sun, without explanation. Hence the pukeko illustrations and a tree that grows spare legs around Christmas, just so that we can take a pair of spares when out celebrating.
